Rushir Reddy Sai Death, Obituary – Rushir Reddy Sai, a 19-year-old Cary, North Carolina, resident and Indiana University student, died after a motorcycle crash near the IU Bloomington campus. He was studying finance and supply chain management at the Kelley School of Business.
According to the information provided, IU police were notified of a two-vehicle crash at about 3:53 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the intersection of the Indiana 45 Bypass and Matlock Road. Sai was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died the following day. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured and taken to a hospital.
The police report describes a collision between Sai’s red Aprilia Tuono motorcycle and a silver Lincoln SUV. The SUV driver, a 79-year-old Bloomington man, told police he was waiting to turn left from the bypass onto East Matlock Road.
As he began turning, the motorcycle appeared from behind another vehicle and struck the SUV’s rear passenger door. The report says the impact spun the vehicle around.
The SUV driver estimated the motorcycle was traveling about 80 mph. Three witnesses told police they saw the motorcycle weaving through traffic at high speeds, and dashcam footage reportedly showed that the motorcycle was not visible to the SUV driver before the collision. These are details from the initial account; Indiana State Police are assisting IU police with the investigation.
Beyond the circumstances of the crash, Sai’s obituary remembers a young man who was deeply engaged in his studies and interests. He loved his life at IU and pursued opportunities through peer tutoring, internships, and work with his father at RealtyBlocks.
He also enjoyed pickleball, going to the gym, video games, cars, technology, and riding his Aprilia motorcycle.
Sai is survived by his parents, Himabindu Pothireddy and Hareesh Sai; his older brother, Pushkar Sai; his maternal grandparents, Savithri and Rajareddy Pothireddy; and his paternal grandparents, Indrani and Narasimha Reddy.
